A few words from the host
Come enjoy the artistic, cosmopolitan, and "bohemian" Paris that is Belleville. Right next to the Ménilmontant church, walking distance to the Père Lachaise cemetery and the Belleville park with its unbeatable view over the city. The city center is never far away: just a few metro stops or a downhill ride on a bicycle. The apartment is fully furnished with all necessary amenities. It is a sunny, typically parisian flat with an old wooden floor and fireplace. The vibrant rue Oberkampf is nearby, as are the Parc des Buttes Chaumont, Bastille, République, Le Marais, Montmartre etc... Just minutes from Bus 96 and Ménilmontant subway (line 2 direct to Montmartre, Place de la Nation, Arc de Triomphe, Gare du Nord/La Chapelle, Jardin d'acclimatation. A Vélib' station (city bycicle rental) is just down the street, as are several shops, restaurants, and bars. It's a perfect place to live as a real parisian, apart from the tourist crowd. Welcome and enjoy your stay @ my place :)
Belleville-Père Lachaise
This is not the Paris of ritz and glitz, but it is endearing in its own way. Whilst the Père-Lachaise is the dominant tourist attraction, this part of Paris contains a rich history of popular village life in places such as Belleville and Charonne. The rue des Pyrénées is a long, meandering, Acacia-lined street loved by true Parisians for its wealth of local merchants and authentic Parisian fare. Père-Lachaise is a most peculiar place, for the deceased and the living. Among the deceased, you will encounter Jim Morrison, Oscar Wilde, Honoré de Balzac, Delacroix, Apollinaire, Edith Piaf, Chopin (to name just a few, obviously). Among the living, you will cross paths with wandering poets, lovers, mothers walking their children, charming elderly folk, peolple with a fetish for statutes, and of course tourists from around the world. Who could imagine that when the cemetery was inaugurated, the Parisians had to be seduced in order to want to be buried there.
